The conversion makes any traditional bicycle model an electric model. All you need to do is choose the right type of drive and install the motor and battery in the right place. There are basically three methods of remaking bikes:

  • the central drive works thanks to the motor integrated with the pedals and the crank mechanism. The essence of the conversion comes down to replacing the existing crank with an engine equipped with a single rack. In this case, the engine's power is transferred directly to the chain. This allows you to combine fast pedaling with a low number of crank turns per minute. Excellent driving properties are guaranteed thanks to the matching of the center of gravity to the structure of the bicycle. The additional power reserve allows for higher speeds and easier overcoming obstacles. Most drive sets have a power of 250 to 750 W. The handlebars usually have a display that acts as a counter and an on-board computer - The drive is used mainly in bicycles operating in difficult mountain terrain;
  • motor installed in the front wheel - this is a variant usually found in ready-made electric bikes. A motor is installed in place of the hub on the wheel. The sensor located in the crank is activated during pedaling, thanks to which the rotation of the wheel is assisted. This solution is used primarily in the case of city bikes, which the user uses to move on flat and paved surfaces. Each motor has 6 bolts for installing the brake discs. In these models, you can choose two types of displays - LED (with assist mode switches) LCD (more advanced on-board computer). Most often, front-wheel drive bikes have a power of 250 W;
  • drive installed in the rear wheel of the bicycle - a solution that definitely stands out in terms of many benefits. It should be emphasized here that bikes with this drive cope much better when driving in bad weather conditions (rain, slippery surfaces). It is also used in models used to navigate mountainous terrain. A motor with a thread intended for installation of a freewheel or a cylinder is placed in the wheel in place of the hub. Such a drive allows you to overcome even the most difficult climbs. The engine is characterized by high torque and significantly changed driving parameters. Additionally, it is equipped with six installation holes for mounting disc brakes.

When converting a bike, it is also extremely important to choose the right battery with parameters adapted to the engine power. There are usually two types of installation - to the frame and to the trunk. Battery capacity is measured in units of ampere hours. This parameter shows the distance that can be traveled in one charging cycle. When choosing a battery, you should also pay attention to the voltage level necessary to operate the engine. Usually, electric bikes use a voltage of 36V, for more powerful units it is 48V.
